The Thomas McNally First Responder Player Scholarship #4 Launch Original

Pima County Surf (Tucson, AZ) is proud to announce the launch of The Thomas McNally First Responder Player Scholarship.

Pima County Surf honors and respects all first responders who serve our community. We honor their sacrifice with The Thomas McNally First Responder Player Scholarship. The Thomas McNally First Responder Player Scholarship is available to player(s) of first responders in our community. Eligible players must be directly related to a first responder in our community, including first responders who have been injured or lost their lives. Scholarship funds can be applied towards registration fees and/or uniforms.

Thomas McNally served on the Tucson Police Department for 30 years, ultimately retiring as a Captain. During his time with TPD he worked with the undercover narcotics unit, was in charge of the motorcycle division, lead as an instructor at the Police Academy, and oversaw the support unit including K9 and helicopter divisions.

Coworkers often said that he was one of the “good ones,” who served his community the right way. Thomas McNally loved sports, playing football, track and wresting in high school. Later in life he enjoyed hiking, skiing, and hunting. While Thomas never played soccer himself, he grew to love the sport and developed a passion for it while cheering on his daughter.

He supported her 100%, while also pushing her to be better throughout both her club and collegiate career. Soccer was his daughter’s life, and therefore was also his life. He remained active, running and working out daily all the way up until he got sick in 2012.  In November 2012, Thomas was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, and fought hard for 13 months before ultimately losing his battle with cancer. Thomas dedicated his life to taking care of those around him, serving both his family and community with all he had. With this scholarship, we hope to honor a life well lived and keep his memory alive, while also providing the opportunity for a player to partake in an amazing opportunity.
